Puerto Rico Lifestyle Magazine - Privacy Policy

Whether you’re an advertiser, reader, contributing writer or curious privacy advocate, it may be important for you to know our privacy policy as it pertains to readers, writers and information gathered, retained and dispersed from here on Puerto Rico Lifestyle.

As a general rule we do not collect user information. The exception to this is that registered users will have a profile established on the server, but much of this information is not accessible even to us. Regardless, we will never sell, trade, barter or otherwise disclose any of your private information, except as required by legal mandate, and then only to the best of our ability.

Site administrators and editors will never have access to your password or “hidden” email address. This adds a layer of privacy to your interaction with Puerto Rico Lifestyle, but it also restricts our ability to help you if you forget your password, regardless of what additional information you will be able to provide to us.

More specifically, however, our privacy policy extends as follows:

Readers – We gather no information about readers to Puerto Rico Lifestyle. Our servers retain anonymous usage statistics for a finite time period to determine how many articles are read, from what nations these readers enjoy our content, and how many pages they view. If you read Puerto Rico Lifestyle without a registered user name, you will remain anonymous. We do not log your name, email address or Internet Protocol address. Some advertisers on our site may, at some point, request to store optional cookies on your computer or log your IP address to avoid abuse of their advertising systems. By merely reading this site, none of your personal information will ever be recorded.

Raters – If you decide to rate an article (based on our current 5-star scale) your rating will not be in any way attached to you, your IP address, your email address or in any other discernible way. Your ratings are logged in an anonymous fashion so that your high rating and low rating may never be attributed back to you, whether you are voting as an anonymous reader or a registered user.

Commenters – If you post comments to articles on Puerto Rico Lifestyle, you may be permitted to do so anonymously, which is to say, without attaching your comments to your user name, and neither will you be required to create a private account to have access to this feature. This feature may be disabled in the future based on patterns of abuse and our systems ability to filter out such abuse. If your comments are attached to your registered user name, we would be able to lump a series of comments and thoughts together based on user name, but we would still be unable to connect that to a single, real-world user. We will not target you for advertisements or privacy invasions based on these, as we have no interest in doing so and have specifically designed our system to prevent such actions, even in the event of outside requests, interventions or hacking.

Polls – Your vote to a poll can never be attached to your user name, whether voting as a registered user or anonymous reader. If you attach a comment to the poll, which is encouraged, you may do so either anonymously or using a private, registered user profile, but even in such an event, your privacy remains secure because we do not have access, not even at the administrative level, to connect a real-world individual with a user profile.

Forum users – Our forthcoming forums will allow anonymous posting for a limited time, until such time as posting abuse becomes too great to effectively combat, as well as posting from registered users. For users to register you will have to provide a legitimate email address to which you have access in order to complete your registration. We will only have access to your email address if you permit us to have it. If you request that it be kept private, we will not have access to it under any circumstances. Whether you provide this to us or not, we will not directly use, sell, solicit to or otherwise seek gain from the acquisition of your email address. In other words, as we’ve already said above, we have no desire to abuse your user profile, and our system is specifically designed to prohibit such actions.

Writers – Writers submitting material to Puerto Rico Lifestyle may choose to create a tangible profile for the advancement of their personal life or professional career, but the only information we will have access to is the information you specifically authorize us to have and request that we utilize. If you provide contact information for administrative use, this will only be used by administrative staff to contact you with news and information about the site, suggestions and requests for additional articles, and to otherwise correspond with you in direct regards to the body of work you have submitted.

As a writer, however, you will be held to a higher standard with a lesser expectation of privacy. You may be held accountable for the accuracy, factuality, and uniqueness of your material. If you violate someone’s copyright protected rights, we will be incapable of acting as a buffer against such infringements on your part. If someone wishes to have your email address (which you’ve asked us not to disclose) so they can send you “hate mail”, we will decline such a request. The disclosure of your private information would only be provided in the case of legal consequence as it is derived from your material.

Submissions – If you submit material (not as a writer) including photographs, we will have no access to your information as to who you are and how it was that you uploaded and submitted such material. In such cases, unless otherwise previously agreed upon in writing, we will wholly own the material you submitted so we may use it to further the spread of information pertaining to Puerto Rico for travelers, visitors and business people.

Letters to the Editor – All letters to the editor (which should be submitted using the ‘Feedback’ button) will become the property of Puerto Rico Lifestyle, and may be published in whole or in part at our sole discretion. In such cases we will have access to your email address and IP address, but these will never be published in conjunction with your statement of fact, opinion or perspective. If we publish such an item, it’s only because we feel that your opinion merits such substantial value that other readers may likewise wish to hear such an opinion or voice it. Your IP address and email will not be disclosed, unless we receive due, legal requests from an appropriate legal body.

In short, we don’t have any desire to gather your personal information. We have intentionally limited our own ability to know what it is, we do not wish to use it nor abuse it, and we are committed to protecting your privacy to the full extent of our legal ability to do so. That is to say, no one may acquire what limited information we have access to barring a valid, legal mandate to do so.
