Letter to the Editor Regarding Taino Ninja Article

This letter was in response to the article Despite Appearance, Tribal Native Denies 'Ninja' Status.

Dear Brian,

I read the article "despite appearance, tribal native denies 'ninja' status" today (http://www.puertoricolifestyle.com/arts/1223-tribal-native.php) and I thought it was tasteless and disrespectful of the Puerto Rican heritage/culture you appear to be engaged in writing about.

I'm all about a little tongue in cheek Onion style, but this was just idiotic...

Probably something to think about next time.

Good day,
LP

Dear LP,
I asked both of my copy-editors to review this article, and I think we've misunderstood one another. This article was meant in good spirits, and both of the proof readers reviewed it upon my request (from your request) and we all still feel it came across well.

I guess all I can offer is that the story was meant well, was delievered to the best of our ability, and that people reading it, even today, do not find anything offensive about it.

If you are offended, I do sincerely apologize, but no offense was meant. The free event held at the traditional grounds was a really rewarding experience, and the volunteers we met were entirely kind, gracious, accomodating and historically informative.

If the article still seems strange or out of place, please consider reviewing www.PerplexingTimes.com, which is the "onion style" site where the articles each originally appeared.

If you still have problems with the article, I gladly welcome your rebuttal article, or a "letter to the editor" I can publish to set the record straight. It's NEVER our intention to offend - obviously we are as in love with Puerto Rico as any outsider can be - so please help us to correct this perceived injustice.

If you review the article and it still seems like we were poking fun, I would ask you kindly to take a look at the publication works of the author of this piece, Brendan Alexander of Perplexing Times to better understand the typical tone of his works. Hopefully that will help clear the air, but if not, you are certainly free to write back to us again.

Best wishes,
Puerto Rico Lifestyle Magazine Editorial Staff

EDITOR'S NOTE: This response letter was sent to LP on January 7th, but we have not heard anything back in reaction as of publication.
