Satire News Site Announces Twice Daily Publication Schedule
One of the oldest satire websites on the net, Glossy News, has announced to the surprise of many that they are returning to a twice-daily publication schedule. While traditional news may be dying off, this misfortune may be the very grounds for the 7-year-old spoof news bellwether has been able to get back on top of the fake news game.
The site has been publishing top satire since 2002, and has featured more than six-dozen writers over the years. Topics lampooned have included politics of course, but there has also been a strong focus on entertainment stars, like Britney Spears, the Olsen Twins, Keanu Reeves and others.
Just a few weeks ago, they announced an open invitation to new humor writers, and the response has been very strong. Since then, they've received so much attention from aspiring (and experienced) satire writers that they've gone from publishing 2-4 articles per week, to publishing two per day.
At its peak, Glossy News was publishing consistently three articles per day, though the editor admits "we were more focused on quantity than quality. We're taking things very seriously this time, so submissions have to be of exceptional quality to make the cut."
They're also running a logo competition, with the grand prize sponsored by The Publicity Firm, asking users to submit a new logo to the site to win big prizes in web design and publicity.
The site hasn't just been attracting new writers, but they've also made some big changes to the site. "We got rid of popup ads as well as the annoying flashing ads. It cuts into our operating revenue, but we're in a new era of the web, so it's more critical to make our readers happy and comfortable viewing the site than it is to squeeze out the last handful of nickels for short-term gain." The editor added, "We have also pledged to never bring back the pop-ups or obnoxious flashing ads."
