American Idol Shuns Puerto Ricans, Embraces Nude Model "Bikini Girl"
American Idol's contentious and often despised "Group Week" has come and gone, but if there is one thing we now know for sure, it's two things: Puerto Rican's are only being included for the sake of novelty, and tasteless, human jokes are still free to move forward in the competition. Sure, we're looking at you, Norman, but worst of all, we're looking at the nude photo posing "Bikini Girl" Katrina Darrell, whose naked photos have already shown up online.
American Idol producers have already made a mockery of Tatiana Del Toro, who has already established herself as a media and recording artist. She may have a big ego, but it's one she's earned, and it isn't a fraction as big as the producers have made it out to be. The "runaway fake giggling" isn't her, it's the result of prodding producers saying over and over that they didn't get the take, and that she had to repeat it. We've never seen this sort of hack editing for mainland contestants before, so why the big shift?
What about Jorge Nunez? He was put through from his first audition, despite his "annunciation issues" (which was hastily defended as "we're here because we want to find somebody who sings with an accent " by Simon, who added "otherwise we'd go to Omaha [Nebraska]) but we haven't seen anything from him since. Is he not dramatic enough? Won't he give the producers something to make fun of as he advances round-by-round? He's a brilliant vocalist and otherwise perfectly commercial, so why can't we see more of him?
And of course we haven't seen more than a few seconds of background time for 20-year old Patricia Lewis Roman. Has she made it on? Has she already gone home? She's beautiful, sings like you can barely believe, and worthy of anyone's tv time in English or Spanish, but here we are focusing on jokes, jokers and the perpetually sad.
I'd like to just say it's time to give PR her due, but before I can do that, I have to ask why on earth zero-talent clowns like nude model Katrina Darrell (aka Bikini Girl) made it as far as they did.
It's indeed a long shadow to cast across one of Idol's little sisters of ephemeral glory, but numerous reports have already come out that the terrible singer "Bikini Girl" (who admits to having a stripper pole in her bedroom, but not to being a stripper,) posed nude for photographs and video clips less than a year ago… don't act surprised, this is the girl who used the exposure of her evident lack of breasticles to earn her golden ticket in a gender split decision from first-round auditions.
