Obama to Name John McCain as Secretary of Defense?
President-Elect Barack Obama has pledged to fill his cabinet, as did Abraham Lincoln, with highly qualified persons whose skills compliment his own, even if their ideals may at times seem in stark contrast. Questions remain as to how far he might take such a commitment. Former President Richard Nixon famously surrounded himself by sycophantic yes-men, but Obama has already made a number of controversial appointments to his transitional team, including polarizing figure Rohm Emanuel.
John McCain ran almost exclusively on his legacy of heroism as a retired serviceman. Being shot down repeated in Vietnam may well have prepared him for being shot down in the presidential election, but a majority of Americans still trust McCain with matters of national defense more than they trust Barack Hussein Obama.
Many critics are already asking the question, "Will president-elect Obama name John McCain as his secretary of defense?"
Brian K. White, satirist from Glossy News suggested that, "Naming McCain to secretary of defense is about as likely as [Obama] picking Sarah Palin for secretary of evolution."
It should be pointed out, however, that White has been a noted critic of the McCain/Palin campaign throughout the elections season.
Answers to this question and many more are expected to come forth in the next few days, but only time will tell if Barack Obama will name John McCain to the position of Secretary of Defense.
