If You're Ever in Sabana Grande, Try Nicky's Pizza
If you're ever in Sabana Grande, and honestly I can't imagine why you would be, you'll find there's nearly nothing in terms of tourist draw. The buildings are quaint and rustic, the people are as friendly as anywhere, but strangely this is a town that really likes pizza, and Nicky's is a good choice.
I must have seen five pizza joints within two blocks. Maybe I was in the pizza district, or maybe I just took a wrong turn, but a few blocks later I found Little Caesars, so I figured I was on to something.
Letting convenience and my hunger guide me, I picked the nearest one, and it was good. Nothing fancy inside and the usually limited command of English (but come on, we're a world away from the tourist hotspots here,) but the order was placed just fine and it came out great.
The cheese was thick and baked just to the golden edge of burning, like I like it. The pepperoni was modestly applied, but I didn't mind. For $15 I got a family-size pepperoni, breadsticks and a 2-liter of Coke. Same thing at Pizza Hut wouldn't have been better, just different, and would have cost twice as much.
Nicky's Pizza & Sandwich is located at calle Baldorioty #22, Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. And tell them that loco gringo with the no bueno Spanish sent you.
