Taco Maker Makes Decent Tacos at Lackluster Prices
A fairly common chain around the island of Puerto Rico is Taco Maker, and it looks to be an upscale Taco Bell, a Taco Time sort of place, if you will. The problem is that you're an awfully long ways from Mexico, and that's not a concern in and of itself, since Taco Bell ain't exactly Mexican food. Still, if you want to know if you should pay a visit, consider this.
I expected it to be a bit more expensive than Taco Bell, which it is. I assumed for the price I'd get the sort of quality I expect from Taco Time, which I didn't. The burritos, tacos, taco salads and everything else follow the traditional mexi-rapido formula of combining the same ingredients with minimal variation into slightly different tortillas, but the food ends up only so-so.
And it isn't cheap. Expect a combo to come out around $7, which is only a couple bucks off a regular lunch, and you don't get any of the Puerto Rico experience. The combos come with a pile of lettuce and wet French fries, so if you're in to that, maybe you should go for it, but my kids wouldn't touch a second fry, and neither would I (and I was the guy stuck paying for it, trying like hell to earn my value back.)
